October Outing - The Elan Valley 7/11/08
The October outing was a ride through the Elan Valley. It was a pleasant autumn day, a little chilly but clear enough to enjoy the views, especially the dramatic sight of the water cascading over the dams. Everyone enjoyed the afternoon, meeting up with friends at the Visitor Centre for a chat, afternoon tea in the cafe, and a wander round the interesting information displays and, of course, the shop! This is always a popular ride out - who can ever tire of the spectacular views of the place - and right on our doorstep, too!

Monthly Outings - The Pales 7/10/08
Community Support has continued with its monthly outings throughout the year. The varied list of places visited includes Offa's Dyke Centre in Knighton, Thomas' Shop in Pen-y-Bont, Eardisland Dovecote, Llancaiach Manor and Abbey-cwm-Hir Hall. There was also a very interesting and enjoyable visit to Trefeca, the home and museum of the revivalist, Hywel Harris, which was very kindly organised by Reverend Brian Reardon - many thanks to him.
The latest outing was to The Pales, above Llandegley, on one of the few summer days we've had this year! The Pales is the oldest Quaker meeting house in Wales still in use, and is set in beautiful surroundings with stunning views across to the Radnor Hills. We all managed to get into the tiny 'meeting room' to listen to the warden, Martin Williams, gave an interesting illustrated talk about its history, before moving next door into the 'women's' room for a scrumptious afternoon tea, prepared and served by Lynda Williams and helpers. A wander round the garden, with its pond, rounded off the afternoon nicely. Many thanks to Lynda and Martin for making us so welcome

Launch of Powys Info-Engine Website 25/6/08
Powys Info-engine was started because of a need in the public and voluntary sector to provide and access information about community and voluntary sector groups.
Info-engine seeks to provide a facility whereby voluntary / community groups are able to publish their information in an easily accessible and usable web site.
It is hoped the site will grow over future months to provide a useful resource for the general public in Powys.
Builth Minor Injury Services Close 2/6/08
Powys Local Health Board has decided that the Minor Injury Unit (MIU) at Builth Hospital is unsustainable and have made the decision to relocate this service to Llandrindod Wells Hospital. This change takes effect from today.
This means there is no longer an acute injury service in Builth Wells or Llanwrtyd Wells. This includes Builth Hospital and the doctor surgeries.
Happy Anniversary! 6/5/08
Builth Wells Community Supports Charity Shop celebrates its first year in business on Tuesday 6th May.
The success of the shop is due to the hard work of the shop manager Liz Easton and her team of Volunteers but of course without the donations from the local community there would not be any stock to sell. Local people have been incredibly generous with their donations and the shop has become an important asset to the town.
“The continued support of all our customers & donors is essential for our future success and we would like to convey our heartfelt thanks for their involvement”
Liz Easton Shop Manager. She is pictured with a cheque for £20000 - this amount represents the money channelled into various community schemes and in the future we hope to expand and maybe initiate new projects.
